A crowd gathers to gawk at bronze nipples and foreskins. Their tour guide sounds like a sophomore explaining that most guys read Playboy magazine for the articles. The Victorians didn’t have Playboy, just French postcards and neoclassical Greek sculpture. So they justified the statues with sophisticated-sounding mythology and allegory.
